POLICE EFFECTIVENESS: the stationing on territory and the wage policy
In the policing and police history literature, rich by now, surely there has not been a lack of attention towards spatial organization. I am referring to numerous studies published in the recent past. The administrative divisions and the control logics that accompanied this process of definition and organization of spaces, with a specific focus on the period of eighteenth-century reforms, have been widely analysed. However, while these studies have generally highlighted the rationalising function related to the project and the realization of these administrative units, they have not drawn the same attention to the stationing on territory of people concretely responsible for control duties. This is even truer if the chronological perspective of observation is diversified and extended.
Therefore, the next workshop organized by Cepoc (see www.cepoc.it for the complete list of precedent seminars), planned in Gargnano, on Garda Lake, the 21st and 22nd October 2016, is going to be about this subject. In particular, we want to draw the attention to what was, and in obedience to which rationales, the presence on territory of policing forces and policing men, with the aim of reconstructing their location, the changes over time and the reasons that preside and presided over the various choices.
